Epilepsy is a neurological condition in which the brain shows abnormal electrical activity, leading to repeated seizures. With the right treatment, most patients can live a normal life.

Seizures can also occur due to fever, low blood sugar, infection, stress or stroke. Epilepsy is diagnosed only when seizures occur repeatedly.

Yes. With proper medications, EEG evaluation and follow-ups, 70–80% of patients become seizure-free.

If two or more anti-epileptic medicines do not control seizures even when given in correct doses, the condition is called Drug-Resistant or Refractory Epilepsy. Such patients require Video-EEG, MRI and surgical evaluation.

Yes. When done for properly selected patients, epilepsy surgery can:
Reduce seizures significantly, or
In many cases, completely stop seizures The decision is made after thorough evaluation.

Driving may be allowed after seizure-free period (usually 6–12 months), depending on local laws. Always consult your neurologist before driving.
